On Common Ground is a collection of outstanding reading material that appeals to the common experience of young people. The selections, from a wealth of sources both traditional and contemporary, and in a variety of fictional and non-fictional forms, have been carefully chosen for their strong narrative lines and for their reflection of the shared interests and concerns of students of varying abiliities needs, and backgrounds. Students are thereby encouraged to read, reflect, and respondas individuals, and together as members of an active learning group. An accompanying Teacher's Resource provides suggestions of activities for each of the selections, a bank of generic ideas and strategies for the classroom, and a range of innovative and manageable approaches to assessment and evaluation.
